Proctoring and review (Miatz Kanan)

How exams are monitored, what needs consent, and how a person reviews a flagged session.

  • Every flag is reviewed by a person — never an automatic pass or fail
  • Camera and screen proctoring only ever runs on the web, with explicit consent
  • Standard exams are still monitored for leaving the window and pasting, everywhere

Levels of oversight

| Level | What it observes |

|---|---|

| Open | Nothing — practice mode |

| Secured | Browser signals only: leaving the window, pasting, exiting fullscreen. No media. |

| AI-proctored | Adds webcam snapshots/video and a screen recording, reviewed by AI |

| Live-proctored | A proctor watches webcam, screen and audio live |

| T-aan viva | A spoken viva; audio and video of your answers |

| Kanan Journey | Screen capture inside the product, on allowlisted pages only |

Consent and the web-only rule

Anything above secured captures media, so it is web-only and asks for explicit consent first. The mobile apps declare no camera or microphone, so a proctored exam taken on a phone runs under standard monitoring instead. Capture never begins until the candidate has seen exactly what is observed and agreed to it.

The review queue

A flag is a prompt, not a verdict. Each flagged session shows the candidate, the exam, an integrity score and the signals that fired. A person then decides:

  • Clear — nothing of concern.
  • Warn — note it and let the result stand.
  • Void — cancel the attempt (final; the candidate is told).

The decision is recorded against the session. The consequence is always a human's.

Frequently asked

What does Miatz Kanan actually do?

It runs an exam under a level of oversight. Open is practice. Secured records browser signals only — leaving the window, pasting, exiting fullscreen — and records no media. The higher levels add webcam, screen and audio capture for AI or live-human review.

Is camera and screen recording on by default?

No. Media capture is off by default, gated behind a platform flag, and web-only — the mobile apps declare no camera or microphone, so a proctored exam falls back to standard monitoring there. When capture is on, it starts only after the candidate gives explicit consent, and only on the web.

What happens on a flag?

Nothing automatic. A flagged session lands in this queue for a person to decide: clear it, warn the candidate, or void the attempt. Kanan's job is to point a human at the sessions worth a look, not to pass or fail anyone.

Where is the evidence kept?

In your organization's private store, opened only through short-lived links for review, and never used to train models. Capture is limited to the exam session — and, for in-product journeys, to the pages the exam explicitly allows.
