One public board. Every free playable you finish feeds a single composite score — enter yours and it finds its rank, your percentile, who’s just ahead to chase, and how many players you already beat.

◆The funnel, made visiblethe mesh, not a slogan

This board is the land-and-expand funnel drawn in the open. Every playable feeds one score, so rank travels with you across the whole set — it isn’t one tool’s high score, it’s your spread across all of them.

You sit at rank 9. The one to catch is echo-nine at 1,655 — the honest nudge the mesh shows instead of a generic “explore more.” The top players got there by playing the ones you haven’t tried yet.

The Challenge Mesh

Every free playable in this set feeds one public board. Enter your composite score and the mesh finds exactly where you'd slot — your rank from top to bottom, your percentile, the single player just ahead to chase, and how many you already beat. The moat is what it refuses to hide: instead of a generic "explore more" nudge, it draws the land-and-expand funnel in the open — you're placing against everyone, and rank travels with you across every tool, not just this one. Runs entirely in your browser (0 uploads, works offline).

How to use it

  1. Type your composite score, or drag the slider — or load a preset: Rookie, Mid-pack, Contender, or Champion.
  2. Watch your rank and percentile update live as your row slides into the seeded board.
  3. Read the who's-ahead line to see the exact handle just above you — the one to catch next.
  4. Open the X-ray panel to see the funnel the board makes visible, then copy or share where you landed.

What this clears up (the fundamentals)

  • Rank is a position, not a score — your number only means something relative to everyone else's. The mesh turns a raw score into a 1-of-N placement, which is the only figure that actually ranks you.
  • Percentile answers "where do I stand?" — top 5% and top 60% can be one or two points apart when the board is dense. Seeing the neighbors makes the gap concrete.
  • One identity, many playables — a composite score aggregates activity across the whole set, so the way up is breadth (play the ones you haven't) as much as depth (grind one).
  • The nearest rival is the next action — "climb the leaderboard" is a mood; "beat the player 40 points above you" is a target. Naming the neighbor turns ambition into a move.

Where it's used

A FREE, top-of-funnel and retention surface — the persistent board every playable feeds, and the honest pre-signup preview of the full eval-gated leaderboard. It's a miatz build-lab concept playable: play the placement here, then learn to build the composite-scoring feed and the leaderboard yourself.

FAQ

How is my rank worked out?

Your score is compared against a seeded public board of anonymized handles. Everyone with a strictly higher score sits above you; your rank is that count plus one. Percentile is round((1 - (rank - 1) / total) × 100, 1) — a deterministic rule, no model call and no randomness.

What's the difference between rank and percentile?

Rank is your exact place — "9th of 13." Percentile is how high that place sits on a 0–100 scale — "top 31%." Rank is precise; percentile is comparable across boards of different sizes.

Why does the board show anonymized handles?

Because the point is placement, not identity. The seeded handles (like byte-badger or echo-nine) stand in for real players so you can see the neighbors above and below without anyone's data being exposed.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your score is placed against a board baked into the page, entirely in your browser — nothing is transmitted, stored, or logged. Turn off your Wi-Fi and it still works.

Limits

A teaching placement over a fixed, seeded board of twelve handles — it shows how ranking and percentile work, not your standing on any live leaderboard. Ties place you just ahead of the matching score, and the real product board updates on a schedule from actual play. The mechanism it teaches (composite scoring, cross-playable identity, an honest funnel) is exactly the real practice.
